Christmas holidays 2003-04
WEEK 1

Saturday, December 27th, 2003, we crossed to the South Island on the 8am sailing of the Lynx and drove down to Christchurch for a two-week break. The 'fast ferry' trip is two-and-a-quarter hours, and after a number of stops en route including lunch in Kaikoura, we reached our destination about 4pm that afternoon.

Saturday 7.35am.

The Avon flowing placidly alongside Victoria Square.

About to set out on the cycle way from Papanui to lower Riccarton.
The ride is adjacent to the railway line all the way.
Friday afternoon.

The expert about to sink a putt.
Friday evening.

Grub time.
Saturday morning.
Rebecca & Nicola with (great) Aunty Lesley in Ashburton.
Malcolm with his aunt.
Midday dinner in Temuka. The kids with their cousins Andrew & Robert at right. The grown-ups' table.
Cooling off at the nearby river later afternoon. It was another rather warm day. The temperature recorded by the car thermometer early evening was 33 degrees (about 90 fahrenheit).
"Shall we gather at (or in) the river?" Ganging up on Andrew.
Homeward bound. A quick stop for a shot of the trout at Rakaia. And, nearing Christchurch, a shot of a rather distinctive mail box at the side of the main highway.
