Chocoholics Dream Nite

"I love chocolate" read the lettering strung across the hall. Most of us do! We expected it to be one of our more popular occasions, and it was. We also wondered whether we might break our previous record of 45 for the number of kids who turned up. We did. 62 kids, 6 adults. Phew! However we'd really only catered for a maximum of 50, because our usual numbers vary from anywhere between 20-45. Somehow we coped.

It was a lot of fun. We played a number of games including these ones:

'Musical Squares' for which the winner of each round won - you guessed it - a small bar of chocolate.
  • 'Throw a 6' and after putting on certain items of clothing, the player uses a knife and fork to cut off and eat pieces of chocolate (from a large cake) - until the next person throws a 6, and that sometimes happens before you've even started eating!
  • 'Chocolate Vine' which was a relay in which six teams competed, one kid at a time, to each eat two pieces of chocolate dangling on strings.
  • 'Drop the marshmallow' where a mini marshmallow coated in chocolate sauce was dropped into the open mouth of one chosen team member lying on the floor. At least that was the idea of the game! Some missed the target, others intentionally let their gooey marshmallow fall somewhere else on the face of their 'victim'.

Will Warden (the church's pastor) gave us a brief talk about God always being there for us to turn to, and we rounded off the evening with ice cream and jelly (not chocolate-flavoured!) and milkshakes that were the right flavour.
