It drizzled on and off during the day, but we decided we'd go ahead with our 'Food 2 Go' excursion regardless - unless the weather turned really gross! By the time we met at Tawa Station for the 6.33pm train, the rain had stopped anyway and it didn't bother us again. We (all 46 Club Intermed kids and eight adults) had our own carriage on the way into town, but not on the way out again.
From Wellington Station we caught a couple of buses to Courtenay Place. Our first port of call was Burger King, for the first half of a burger each. We left there and walked along the busy Friday night streets to Te Aro Park/Pigeon Park to pour our own drinks (Coke and lemonade). From there to McDonald's in Manners Mall for the 'other half' of our burger.
Our last burger restaurant was McDonald's in Lambton Quay for 50 packs of large fries and the same number of soft-serve cones. This time the machine lasted the distance - last year it didn't! And we'd learnt from last year's experience when we'd had to make a mad dash to the station at the end of the evening. On this occasion we had more time on our hands but still cut it rather fine in getting to the train just a minute or two before it was due to leave. Our excursion went off well considering the number of kids on board - another rather popular food event.
