Florio Tce
Held on Sunday 10th March, 2013
At 4.30pm on 10th March our neighbours began to gather for the street barbeque on the large car pad part way down Florio Terrace. A Claxton horn was sounded as a gentle reminder that the barbeque was underway.
Our numbers were slightly up on last year with a total of 33 attending during the course of the evening. This was very pleasing. Some people brought their visitors to join in the fun. We met neighbours who were new to the street and realised that our neighbourhood is richly blessed with a mix of cultures and ages. We all appreciated the chance to get together and to begin to know each other more.
A great variety of food was brought to share and there were two barbeques sizzling with barbeque meats. As we ate we mixed and mingled under a clear blue sky with warm temperatures. We were so lucky to have a perfect Wellington evening to celebrate our neighbourhood.
One of our preschoolers enjoyed experimenting with the sounds he could get from the Claxton horn. He said "That sounded like f_rting!" Children are so honest with their comments!
Sincere thanks goes to the Tawa Community Board who again took on the leadership of the preparation for Neighbours' Day by organising an initial public meeting, informative emails, street notices and resources etc. It was a great effort that Malcolm and his team made in helping us bring our neighbourhoods and Tawa community closer together. We look forward to doing this again in 2014.
