This week's pics have nothing in common except that they were photographed in Tawa within a couple of days of each other at the very start of the New Year.

On 30 & 31 December and 1 & 2 January Tranz Metro ran their 'heritage' red set, Dm556, known as 'Cyclops' from Wellington to Paraparaumu in conjuction with the 'Anything Vintage Transport and Machinery Festival' at QE Park, MacKay's Crossing. Train travellers on the 9am, noon and 3pm services north would have had a surprise when the red set turned up. This and other English Electric sets are not normally used on the Main Trunk - strange, as they always used to be before the advent of the Ganz units. However this was a special event and Tranz Metro came to the party.

In the shot above on 1 January 2007, Cyclops is captured between Tawa and Redwood stations on the 4.05pm service back to Wellington. Luckily a gap opened in the clouds for the photographer and the 'lady in red' looked grand!
