This 'n' that

These three pics have very little in common except that they were all taken in Tawa in April 2007. See below for more info.

These first two pics were taken on the morning of Good Friday, April 6th. This is the Main Road of Tawa looking south from just north of the intersection with Redwood Ave (north). This is usually a very busy road, with lots of parked traffic, particularly on the left side as seen here. There are very few week days in the year when at just after 8.30 in the morning there is no traffic to be seen on the Main Road, other than one parked car outside St Francis Xavier School.
This is set further north along the Main Road in the Emmaus Centre at the back of St Christopher's Anglican Church. The last of the hot cross buns is being handed out after the combined Tawa churches' Good Friday service which started at the Baptist Church, moved on to the Salvation Army, and wound up at the Anglican Church. 200-300 people were involved.
Not Mr & Mrs Smith. In fact they live at opposite ends of Tawa, and support opposing Super 14 rugby teams. Despite appearances, she is an avid Hurricanes' fan. Meantime he supports the red & blacks, in this case the Crusaders. The story here is that both agreed earlier in the season that the jersey of whichever team was ahead of the other at the end of the 'round robin' would be worn to church by the loser of the bet. After four rounds of the competition, when the Hurricanes had won 3 out of 4 matches and the Crusaders just 2 from 4, a certain someone was starting to feel fairly sure of herself. However with just one round left, the Crusaders are on 41 points as opposed to the Hurricanes' 27. Time to concede, and she did - by sporting the red shirt for 90 minutes or more yesterday morning, the last Sunday in April. Whereas he donned the Hurricanes' shirt simply for the photo.
