The start of Winter 2006 in Tawa

The cold snap has arrived and early morning trains take on a different sound and view. With ice forming on the overhead the result is that early morning trains create extra "snap, crackle and pop" noise and spectacular arcing (difficult to capture), but this shot gives an impression.

The morning of Tuesday 6th June, the first heavy frost of the winter. Stopped momentarily at the side of the road, the car thermometer shows how cool it was just after 8.30am.
A few minutes later on the same morning (as above) - view looking northeastwards from southwest Tawa across frost-covered rooves and a haze-filled valley (or is it smog?).  [Click on pic for larger view].
