At long last it's spring, and kowhai trees around Tawa are in bloom, displaying their distinctive yellow hues. One could get all poetical at this point! Anyway they do look good, even though their yellow flowers don't last all that long.

I counted seven tui (the most I've ever seen at one time) in this tree in Nuffield St on a recent Saturday morning. None was postioned particularly well for photographic purposes, but that didn't detract from the fact that it was a pleasant sight to behold, a very New Zealand scene - tui in a kowhai tree.
