It was mid-afternoon, not long before 3pm on Monday, 8th October, when a car which had been angle-parked outside the Community Centre in Cambridge Street, drove into the side of the building. Instead of reversing out from its parked position, the car shot forward across the footpath and struck the outer wall of the Centre, causing a substantial amount of damage. Fortunately the driver wasn't injured although she was obviously a little shaken.
No-one was working in the Mana Tiaki office inside at the time which, again, was fortunate because the desk was shunted half a metre and the resultant mess inside looked a whole lot worse than that outside.
The outer wall was boarded up within a matter of hours. However it could be 2-3 weeks before repairs are completed and things are back to normal.
