A view of north Linden

In case you're not aware, 'greater' Tawa comprises around 14,000 people. That includes Grenada North - geographically separated from the rest of Tawa in a similar way to Tawa being separated from the rest of Wellington - and the Takapu Valley.

Within Tawa itself, there are various localities such as Redwood, Greenacres and Linden. It used to be that Linden and Tawa were regarded as separate entities, and some still think of Linden as not actually being part of Tawa. The reality is that today Tawa does include Linden. Whilst some groups still have 'Tawa-Linden' as part of their name, that is progressively being phased out. Like it or not (and most really don't mind), the name Tawa applies to the whole valley.

This photo, taken from the hill leading up to Colonial Knob (on the western side of the valley), shows the northern part of Linden. Bell St is in the foreground, Anthony St is in the middle, that's Roberts St at left, and the motorway (SH1) at the top. At the very bottom is a (presumably) mostly-empty six-carriage commuter train heading south (from left to right) into Wellington to pick up all the workers at the end of the day.
