Kowhai trees in Tawa
In a photo of a kowhai tree in an earlier year, mention was made of kowhai trees being in bloom in Tawa mid-September to mid-October. That may have been the case then, but certainly most years they're well into bloom by early September. These shots around Tawa were all taken in the first 20 days of the month.
Whilst there are a few blossom trees around the place, they are well and truly outnumbered by kowhai trees in bloom. Of course, some blossoming trees may not have "burst forth" as yet.
The yellow bloom of the kowhai trees is likely to be mostly gone by early October.
