26 Oxford Street book launch

"The Bartlett House that today occupies 26 Oxford Street was probably built in the early 1860s. It was a typical colonial cottage of that period." This from the book "26 Oxford Street and the Bartlett family" written by Michael Steer and produced by the Tawa Historical Society. It concludes: "Nathaniel Bartlett and his family would not recognise the Tawa of the early 21st century, but they would certainly be delighted to see their cottage renovated and resplendent at 26 Oxford Street." The 44-page book details the history of the house itself and the family who originally constructed it.

The official launch of the book took place on Monday, 6th December 2010 at 26 Oxford Street, Tawa. The book is dedicated to the memory of Graeme Sutton for his service to the Tawa community and his vision for 26 Oxford Street. Graeme was a member of the Tawa Community Board for many years. He died in September 2009.

The house is impressive, both inside and out. These photos - courtesy of Shona Murray - give a mere glimpse of how it looks. They also feature some of the 30 or so people present for the launch of the book.
