Pohutakawa on the Main Road

Local pohutukawa weren't quite so prolific in their blooming this summer. I certainly haven't noticed as much of a "blaze of red" as there sometimes is in late December and through to mid-January. Some years are definitely better than others in that respect. Having said that, the occasional individual tree such as the one below has turned on a pretty impressive display.

The above photos featuring a rather deserted Main Road and a young, lone pohutukawa were taken shortly before 8am on Sunday, 19 December 2010.

The setting below is at the corner of Tawa St and the Main Road, sometimes known as the BP roundabout. These shots were taken on Saturday morning, 8 January 2011.

The bottom photo features the BP roundabout again - eight years earlier on 11 January 2003. The price of petrol was somewhat lower then.
