It took place this past Sunday afternoon, 27 March 2011 - a get-together giving local people a chance to meet the Tawa Community Board, to see who their local elected representatives actually are, to hear their ideas for Tawa, and to provide their own feedback.
The Tawa Community Board's Community Plan - the board's plan of action for the period October 2010 to October 2013 - was covered in the course of the hour, and a brief presentation on the Tawa Shared Walkway was given by Brett Gillies, chair of the walkway committee.
In addition to seven members of the community board (one was absent), there were 64 people present, a very pleasing turnout. A good number of questions were directed to the community board and, not surprisingly, real concern was expressed about the prospect of the local supermarket being out of operation for around nine months from later in the year. The community board is continuing to liaise closely with Foodstuffs to ensure all reasonable steps are taken to "alleviate the situation", including setting in place a credible alternative store in the currently vacant part of the mall.
