The coldest day

Monday 25th July 2011 was the coldest day on record for Wellington, according to the paper the next day. The temperature got to a high of 6 degrees. With the wind chill factor, it was equivalent to minus 2. Much of the rest of the country, especially in the South Island, had fared just as badly, if not worse. Christchurch had been blanketed with snow. Its high was 2 degrees.

My car thermometer fluctuated between 5 and 6 degress when I went out later in the afternoon. The wind was definitely bitterly cold.

I don't think I've ever seen snow on the hills which are visible from my house in Tawa's southwestern corner. They were worth a photo or two, as seen here.
