Keeping the barbecues safe

There were a number of "Barbecues in Streets all over Tawa" signs in strategic locations around Tawa in the weeks leading up to Neighbours' Weekend on 24-25 March 2012. This was one of them, located on the corner of Lyndhurst Road and Ngatitoa St.

We're not sure if it was placed there by someone with a slightly warped sense of humour, or whether they were just reinforcing the message that if things got out of control in a barbecuing situation, the Tawa Volunteer Fire Brigade wouldn't be far away. Possibly neither - it was simply a convenient pole on which to hang the barbecues sign on a temporary basis.

It's no longer there. The fire truck sign is, pointing out that the fire station is only a short distance along the road (Lyndhurst Road).
