Friday evening, June 28th, 2002, end of the second (school) term. And no, no-one actually had to sing for their supper.

After starting in the hall with fish & chips for tea, we split into 8 groups of four (or in some cases, five) - 35 kids, plus another 13 leaders/helpers. So over to the supermarket we went with each group having $11 (no more, no less) to spend on ingredients for desserts. It seemed to take as long choosing the various bits and pieces at the supermarket as it did actually "making" the desserts themselves back at the hall. And it sure looked like a lot of fun, both selecting the ingredients and putting them together to make some very appetising-looking concoctions.

These first pics show selections being made at the supermarket, and then "preparation" under way back at the hall.

The two "judges" had to inspect the finished efforts in rather a hurry because a lot of them contained ice cream which was rapidly melting! Very difficult deciding which was the "best presented" dessert because most looked really good, and some were very "innovative" (check your dictionary). In the end, equal first place was given to groups 3, 6 and 8 - and everyone else was placed equal second! However, having looked at the pics below, I'd say that certain others deserved top marks too! Judges don't have it easy, especially when they don't have time to taste such tempting samples!

See for yourself the various desserts and the range of ingredients that went in to making them .....
