Achilles Close - Peterhouse Street

The first part of the track through Redwood Bush, from Brasenose Park through to Achilles Close, was officially opened in December 2004. Click here for details of that occasion.

The opening of the next leg, Achilles Close to Peterhouse Street, took place on Sunday afternoon, November 27th, 2005. Mike Oates, the Wellington City Council representative, kicked off proceedings before handing over to the "Friends of Tawa Bush Reserves" spokesman, Fraser Jackson, who provided details of how the track came into being. The Mayor, Kerry Prendergast, then had a few words to say before cutting the ribbon and declaring the track officially open.

The gathered throng in Achilles Close then walked the track itself (around 10 minutes one way) with the offer of afternoon tea at the other end.

The pics below show the offical speeches, the cutting of the ribbon, various walkers on the track through Redwood Bush to Peterhouse Street, and participating in afternoon tea. The sun was out for the occasion but a cool southerly wind kept the temperature low. The appearance of those taking part this time around looks much less summery than those at last year's track opening!
