Tawa Schools and Community Festival 2004
'The Show Must Go On'

Tuesday 7 September in the Michael Fowler Centre

'The Show Must Go On' is this year's theme for the biennial Tawa Schools' and Community Music Festival which takes place in the Michael Fowler Centre on Tuesday 7 September at 7.30pm. This vibrant multi-media show features nine hundred singers from the seven Primary Schools of Tawa, Tawa Intermediate, Tawa College's Dawn Chorus, and an adult choir from the Tawa community and beyond.

The programme features songs from well known shows and films, and includes 'May it Be' from 'Lord of the Rings' and medleys from shows like 'Joseph' and the 'Lion King'. Evergreens from Disney World and Rogers and Hammerstein are firm favourites, along with songs from more recent composers like Andrew Lloyd Webber and ABBA.

Some songs are left as choral numbers, while others are accompanied by dances, choralography, props and special effects. There will be solo, group and instrumental interludes between brackets of songs. One special feature will be a performance by the MIB (Musical Island Boys), who won a bronze medal at the International Collegiate Barbershop Competitions held in the United States in July this year.

Tawa College's team of Shona Murray and Wendy Edwards again join forces to direct the music and the overall production. Martin Burdan has been the 'piano man' since the festival was first held in the Michael Fowler Centre in 1982. The musical backing is provided by a combo of both experienced instrumentalists and young and talented music students from Tawa College.
