Florio Tce

Held on Sunday 25th March, 2012

Twenty-nine people came to celebrate our Florio Terrace neighbourhood on Sunday at 5pm. We had a very good response from the twenty-four households that were given invitations. The sun was a most welcome guest and the northerly wind reminded us that this is part of Wellington, our home.

The barbecue was held on a large double car pad part way down the cul-de-sac. We had two barbecues and people generously brought food to share. Our neighbours came together to mix and mingle and to enjoy each other's company. We were all aware how important it is to know who lives around us and this was the perfect opportunity.

With the name tags provided, everyone was labelled with their first name and street number. The opportunity was taken to update our neighbourhood contact list. The car pad was abuzz with friendly chatter. Interests were shared and new friendships made.

As the light started to fade we packed up and the success of the evening was highlighted by several positive comments. We are all keen to keep the neighbourly spirit alive and we heard repeatedly "LET'S DO THIS AGAIN!"

Sincere thanks goes to the Tawa Community Board who took on the leadership of the Neighbours' Day initiative. Those of us who organised our street barbecues appreciated the initial public meeting, the informative emails, street notices and resources, etc. It was a great effort that the community board and team made in helping us bring our neighbourhoods and Tawa community closer together.
