Tawa Recreation Centre Opening
Saturday November 13, 2004

"The Tawa Recreation Centre at Tawa College was constructed in partnership, with the school contributing $1.5 million and the council $890,000 ... The centre has two gyms, a community room with a kitchen, and plenty of changing facilities. It boasts a massive 600 sq m floor space with full-size courts for netball, basketball, volleyball and badminton.

The new centre is a shared facility - the school will use it during the day, while after school, evenings, weekends and school holidays it will be operated by the council and available to the community ... For more information, please contact the Tawa Recreation Centre on 232 2260."

- selected excerpts from the 'Kapi-Mana News' Tuesday 9 November 2004, pages 22-23.

The Open Day celebrations began with speeches by Bill Peacocke, chairman of the Tawa College Board of Trustees, and Kerry Prendergast, Mayor of Wellington. Tawa College's 'Morning Stars' performed a couple of items (they're always well worth hearing), and the opening ceremony was completed with the unveiling of the official plaque by the Mayor.

Invited guests then partook in morning tea and posed for a few photographs (as seen on these pages), whilst others tried out the new gym and various kids made the most of large inflatables that had been set up in the old gym for the occasion.

"It's a fantastic facility."
