"Spring into Tawa" Market Day takes place in the vicinity of Tawa Plaza and the Main Road shops each September. It's an occasion for the community to come together to buy whatever's on offer at the many and varied stalls, and to enjoy some of the entertainment being provided.
2010 PROGRAMME, Saturday 11th September:
9.00am
"Spring into Tawa" Market Day opens, wet or fine. Students from the New Zealand Radio Training School will be "hosting the show" and running competitions and games.
10.00am onwards
Harry the Clown on site, tying balloons for kids, etc. There will be Tawa College street entertainment throughout the morning, and
Harold the giraffe and Geronimo Stilton will be doing the rounds.
10.15am
Tawa Music Festival singers performing 2 or 3 items in the Plaza (in advance of "Tawa Goes to Town" concert at Michael Fowler Centre on Thursday 16 September)
11.30am
Red Hackle Pipe Band marching along Main Road and playing a few pieces.
12.30pm
End of proceedings.
During the event ...
Food stalls - a wide range of other stalls offering all sorts of goods - also face painting,
hair braiding, and alpacas turning up at some point.
Tawa Volunteeer Fire Brigade and Tawa Emergency Management (Civil Defence) will have displays.
There will also be:
- a bouncy castle by the plaza area
- a climbing frame by the library
- activities inside the library
- kids craft, mini facials, flax flower making and much more at the Tawa Community Centre.
