"Tawa's 'planted garden' is a prominent feature at the suburb's southern entrance from State Highway 1 and uses hedge plants to spell out the name 'Tawa' ... thousands of vehicles pass the sign every day."

The sign was an initiative of Doris Mills, the Mayor of Tawa 1986-87.
