Food events are always popular at Club Intermed, particularly our yearly 'Just Desserts' evening which took place on the last day of the term - Friday, July 8th, 2005. 36 kids took part on the night, somewhat fewer than last year but a more manageable number! After a first course of fish & chips, we split into 7 groups of five (one of those groups of five actually had six in it) before heading over to the supermarket to choose the ingredients for desserts. Each group (under the guidance of an adult leader) had $15 to spend, in addition to being given a small plate of 'decorative sweets' with which to spruce up their handiwork. As a group they had to decide what to buy with their money and then, back at the hall, compete for the honour of constructing the 'best-presented' dessert.
Most of the finished products did look very colourful and very appealing, and it wasn't easy determining an overall winner. The judges decided that the best three were (in no particular order) numbers 2, 5, and 7 as seen below. First placing was given (by an 'independent expert' - someone who wasn't there on the night but compared the various photos) to group 5. Of course the final act was for all the participants to hoe into (eat up) their amazing creations!
