A pohutukawa tree ("New Zealand's Christmas tree") in full bloom is a pretty impressive sight. It's late December through to mid-January when pohutukawa are at their best in this neck of the woods. As it turns out, we've started each of the past few years with this "Weekly pics of Tawa" page featuring shots of local pohutukawa trees. These ones were all photographed on Tuesday 10th January, 2012.

The trees featured here are in different stages of bloom. Some are more "fully-developed" than others. Like kowhai trees in September-October, they're at their best for only a relatively short period of time. It's nice to enjoy them while we can.
