We featured the following update on the front page of the TawaLink website on 11th September 2006 at the time of the Wellington City Council's (or should that be Councillors') attempts to disestablish (get rid of) the Tawa Community Board:
.
WHERE WE'RE CURRENTLY AT ...
Ten individuals from Tawa, from different walks of life, presented oral submissions to Wellington City Councillors last Thursday in support of the Tawa Community Board. All up it was a great combination of reasoned argument and passion. After all, we in Tawa do have good reason to be passionate about the community in which we live. Who knows whether it made a difference to the thinking of those listening? Not all have closed minds! We have nothing to lose by presenting as good a case as we possibly can.
Representatives of the Tawa Community Board itself will be speaking this Thursday (14 September) at 9.30am. On 21 September the Council's Strategy and Policy Committee will be finalising the recommendation they will be taking to a full Council Meeting to be held on Wednesday, 27 September starting at 5.30pm.
We as Tawa residents have the opportunity to turn up in substantial numbers at that meeting to provide tangible evidence that many of us are very concerned they make the right decision, because that will be when their 'final decision' is made.
If the vote goes against Tawa, the Local Government Commission will have the final say in the matter, but that won't be until next April.
