BRIAN WEBB MEMORIAL ROSE GARDEN
The Elsdon Best monument |
Looking back to the monument |
In 1970 the Tawa Borough Council in association with local service organisations constructed a rose garden in Grasslees Park as a memorial to Dr Brian Webb, a member of the Borough Council who had first been elected in 1956. He was also a popular local medical practitioner and a member of several organisations - kindergarten, horticultural society (being a rose lover), Rotary, etc. He became Deputy Mayor in 1962 and held this office when he died suddenly in June 1967 at the early age of 42 years. The Brian Webb Kindergarten, which opened in Victory Crescent in 1969, was named in his honour. |
