Our yearly 'Just Desserts' evening is always one of our most popular, with 53 kids taking part this time around - Friday evening, June 16th, 2006. We started with fish 'n' chips in the hall, then headed off in ten separate groups (each with an adult leader) to the supermarket to choose the ingredients for desserts. It was up to each group to choose what to buy with the $15 they had been given, then back at the hall make a 'colourful and appealing' dessert which had to feature somewhere on it a cheerio (cocktail sausage)!

Before the kids tucked into their finished desserts, both the completed handiwork and 'makers' were photographed. As some groups finished their task well before others, we decided we'd have to go away and compare photographs to come up with a winner. Six judges made their decisions independently of each other, but were pretty much unanimous as to which two desserts looked best. It was obviously far too late by that stage for a taste test! Each dessert is shown below (most of them do look rather appetising), and the overall winner and runner-up are highlighted.
