Food events are always popular at Club Intermed, particularly our yearly 'Just Desserts' evening which took place on Friday, June 15th, 2007. 37 kids took part on the night. After a first course of fish & chips, we split into 7 groups of five or six (although one group was made up of just four) before heading over to the supermarket to choose the ingredients for desserts. Each group (under the guidance of an adult leader) had $16 to spend, in addition to being given a small container of colourful sweets with which to decorate their creations. As a group they had to decide what to buy with their money and then, back at the hall, compete for the honour of constructing the 'best' dessert. Being conscious of the need to eat healthy foods, segments of a mandarin had to be included (and be visible) on each dessert.
As some groups compiled their desserts long before others, each of the finished products was photographed before being devoured. The decision as to which looked the best was made on the basis of the photos seen below. Seven judges made their decisions independently of each other. Tied for second place (on 13 points) were dessert numbers 1 & 6. The imagination shown by the creators of dessert number 7 must have appealed to the judges as (on 14 points) it was declared the overall winner!
