In 2006 the venue was changed from Grasslees Reserve (where 'Carols & Roses' had taken place in previous years) to St Francis Xavier School. The intention was to have the community carol singing outdoors on the grass but, in the event of unfavourable weather (which happens all too often in Wellington), it could easily be switched indoors by using the school hall. As it turned out, the event was held indoors because of a very strong and somewhat cool wind on the night, Tuesday December 12th. Needless to say, the previous evening had been the nicest we'd experienced in many months, certainly so far this summer!
The carol singing in the Leo Connor hall (St Francis Xavier School) was led by Our Lady of Fatima Samoan Community Choir with a good number from the local community enjoying this integral part of the leadup to Christmas in Tawa. The pics below capture something of the occasion, including the traditional lolly scramble for the kids which took place outdoors.
