Food events are always popular at Club Intermed, particularly our yearly 'Just Desserts' evening which took place on Friday, June 20th, 2008. 51 kids took part on the night. After a first course of fish & chips, we split into 9 groups of five or six before heading over to the supermarket to choose the ingredients for desserts. Each group (under the guidance of an adult or 'responsible teenage' leader) had $16 to spend, in addition to being given a small number of colourful 'Pebbles' to decorate their creations. As a group they had to decide what to buy with their money and then, back at the hall, compete for the honour of constructing the 'most appealing' dessert. Being conscious of the need to eat healthy foods, some sort of fruit had to be included (and be visible) on each dessert.
Before the kids tucked into their finished desserts, both the completed 'creation' and the 'creators' were photographed. As some groups finished their task well before others, we knew we'd have to go away and compare photographs to come up with a winner. Seven judges were asked to pick their top three desserts, awarding three points for first, two for second and one for third. On that basis one dessert was a clear winner on 16 points, with second place getting 9 points and third place 8 points. Congratulations to the winning team - as shown below.
