PAST EVENTS
2003
December 12th - 2003 Finale
Our final programme for the year. For details and pics, click here.
December 5th - Carols at the Stadium
A small number of us caught the train from Tawa Station in to the Stadium to join about 30,000 others for an evening of Christmas carols and other entertainment.
November 21st - World Cup Warmup
25 kids came dressed in various team colours and the games we played were some of the old favourites - bullrush, sock hockey, etc.
November 7th - Barbecue at Dawn's
We landed up eating indoors because the weather outside wasn't particularly nice. A few activities followed, including sussing out who was best at the limbo.
October 31st - Mystery Nite
26 kids turned up, not having a clue what they were in for. That was a good number, considering that there were other events on in the community that evening. For details of what we actually got up to, plus a few pics, click here.
October 17th - Rayz Roadshow
For details and pics, click here.
October 10th - Progressive Dinner
For details and pics, click here.
September 19th - Late Niter
The first part of the evening saw us involved in 10-pin bowling, then it was back to the church hall for hot chips and a drink. We then settled down for a video, 'Snow Dogs', on the big screen before everyone was dropped off home by the church bus (and cars) between 11.20pm and midnight. For details and pics, click here.
September 12th - Poor Kidz Nite
An occasion when we were challenged to think of those less fortunate than ourselves - about 90% of the world's population. The more serious stuff was followed by a few games relevant to the occasion, such as constructing a house from cardboard and dressing ourselves in newspaper. Interesting that only half our usual number turned up for this one.
August 29th - Jax 'n' the Box
The usual choice of a heap of Jax (formerly known as 'Pebbles') or a mystery prize in the box. Some of those choosing the box were given a challenge instead of a prize, like eating a weet-bix and then whistling the national anthem! Very few came away without having won something for their efforts.
August 15th - Pool Party
This was a combined event with the other Tawa intermediate-age youth groups. For details and pics, click here.
August 8th - Gladiators!
4 gladiators against 33 kids, 21 of whom were boys (presumably too "rough" an evening for some of the girls!). For a few pics, click here.
July 25th - Food 2 Go
We took the train in to Wellington and made our way from one burger joint to
the next. For details and pics, click here.
July 4th - American Theme Nite
We decided to have an extra night of Club Intermed on the last day of the term. To read all about it, click here.
June 27th - The Streets of Tawa
The previous night had been the coldest yet this winter - a heavy frost but a lovely blue sky and bright sunshine the day after (being today). It was another cold evening when we gathered outside 22 Ranui Tce to head off in the direction of Linden School and onwards to Greenacres. There were 35 hardy walkers (60% of them girls - maybe the boys were at home in front of the fire) who set off in 7 separate groups. Their instruction sheets would lead them from one street to the next, through a couple of schools, a park, and through some alleyways, with 46 questions to answer along the way. At the same time each group had to be on the lookout for a certain car patrolling the route and one of the team had to hurriedly sit in the plastic chair they were carrying before the torch shone on them. If they were "spotted" with an empty chair they would be penalised. Four lots did get "caught" and a couple of teams had to phone in for directions when they lost their way.
It wasn't a race. Points were awarded for answering the questions correctly, whilst a small number were deducted from those teams who were "spotted" or got lost. First place went to a boys' team calling themselves "CSI Maoris" with 55 out of a possible 60 points. Members of the team were Ethan, James F, Craig, Jarrad & Sam N. Their leader was "Uncle Dave". A little further behind was a girls' team, "Stylish Six" (48), and then "Sliced Kumara", "The Princesses", and "Tawa Peoplez". They did very well considering the length of the course and the numbers of questions involved. A great effort!
Next time around we'll avoid the depths of winter!
June 13th - "Just Desserts"
A big number of us met at the hall to make our own desserts. For all the details and plenty of pics, click here.
May 30th - Newspaper Nite
Games night featuring newspapers.
May 16th - Night of Pool
An evening at the Porirua Aquatic Centre.
May 3rd - Stadium Outing 2003
There were 65 of us in the Club Intermed outing to the Stadium to see the Hurricanes take on the Brumbies. For all the details and plenty of pics, click here.
April 25th - Balloon Bash
It was the last Friday in the school holidays and the first "official" Club Intermed programme for the year. All up we had more than 560 balloons on hand. To see the Balloon Bash page, click here.
Term 1, 2003 - Kids Games for 10 weeks
Kids Games ran every Friday night for 9 weeks in the first term. It involved all the Christian churches in Tawa and was held in the intermediate school hall, with usual attendances between 90-120. The official Closing Ceremony took place at the Basin Reserve on Saturday, April 12th. Further details and heaps of pics are at this site: www.tawalink.com/kidsgames.html
February 28th - Fish'n'chips before Kids Games
We'd already had 3 evenings of Kids Games and decided it would be a good idea for the Club Intermed kids to get together over a fish'n'chip meal before heading on to the fourth Kids Games programme. So that's what we did. There were 29 of us, 22 of Club Intermed age, who met at 6pm on a superb late summer's evening in the Lucases backyard for a short "catchup" and eats before walking up the road to the Intermediate school. [Here are just a few pics].
