November 26th - Taking you for a Ride

November 12th - Barbecue at Willowbank
One of these days we'll get to go to Willowbank Park. We didn't manage it this time. The weather leading up to the event hadn't been too flash, and the park itself was a little boggy/muddy in parts, so we opted for a different venue (that means we went somewhere else). We had the planned barbecue at St Francis Xavier hall and a number of outside activities there with a soccer ball, the giant ball, the tug-o-war rope, water balloons, etc. 36 kids on the night.
October 29th
If you can't stand the heat ... (Year 6 & 7s)
21 kids took part in cooking up some eats and playing a few games at the church hall. Meanwhile the 'older kids' were at the AWAT Fest? at the College. Read all about that here.
October 22nd - Out for Dinner
We had a total of three 'courses' at three different locations. In the church hall we started with sausage rolls, then it was on to Keith's place for a main course of frankfurters and hot chips, etc. Our last stop was Malcolm's garage for dessert - various ice creams and flavourings.
October 8th - The Streets of Tawa

September 17th - Late Niter
This was a special end-of-term event. We went 10-pin bowling for the first part of the evening, then returned to the hall for a video (a comedy featuring some very intelligent dogs), fun and eats. We used the church bus and a few cars to drop everyone off home after 11pm. 42 kids on the night.
September 3rd - It's in the Box
They answered the questions correctly and had the choice of a number of Pebbles (Jax) or getting to see what was in the box, usually something worthwhile, but not always. And there were a few surprises/challenges along the way. 34 kids on the night.
August 20th - Pool Party
This was a combined event with the other Tawa intermediate-age youth groups - a good crowd of kids enjoying fun and games at the Tawa Pool, 80-90 in all.
August 6th - Food 2 Go

July 23rd - Gladiators!
This seems to be an evening that doesn't appeal a lot to some girls. 12 came to last year's Gladiators! evening, 13 to this year's (21 fewer than to 'Just Desserts' at the end of last term. Anyway we had a total of 32 kids on the night, and a fairly boisterous time. A small number of pics, mostly of the 'sumo shunt' can be seen here.
June 25th - Just Desserts

June 11th - Into the Future
What was life like in the 1920s? We saw a small number of pictures which showed fashions from those days, as well as an old car or two. Cars had only been around for 25-30 years then, and airplanes even less time. Appliances that we take for granted today such as computers, TVs and even fridges were unheard of back in the 1920s.
We saw a 4-minute video clip from "Back to the Future II" which projected us into the future. Will our cars fly through the air in the 2020s? Maybe, maybe not. What we probably will see is more machines 'serving' us in the place of people serving us. One thing we learnt that never changes is God's love for each one of us.
Most of us brought along photos of ourselves around 12 months old. The kids had to work out who was who, which wasn't a very easy task! We then spent a little while constructing something 'useful' from a pile of recycled goods - plastic bottles, cardboard boxes, etc - followed by a convincing one-minute spiel explaining what it was that had been made.
Any excess energy was gotten rid of in a good old round of bullrush. Well, even if it didn't wear the kids out, it always sure does the leaders!
May 28th - Balloon Bash

May 14th - Plan B
Our 'Streets of Tawa' event was postponed because of cold southerly weather (although by evening-time the rain had actually stopped). 29 kids met at the hall instead where much of the time was spent enjoying 'informal' games - air hockey, table soccer, table tennis, etc.
May 7th - Stadium Outing 2004
There were 120 of us in the Club Intermed outing to the Stadium to see the Hurricanes take on the Crusaders. For all the details and plenty of pics, click here.
April 30th - Grub on the Trot
It was a 'three-part feed' with different courses at different homes with a short
walk between each. We started with chippies & sausage rolls in Malcolm's garage, dined on burritos at Dawn's, and finished with dessert at Will & Robyn Wardens. Will gave us a talk about a 'cool' Jesus not being afraid to be seen with 'uncool' people. 37 kids and 5 leaders on the night. Pics will be available soon.
April 2nd - Eggs & Crosses
A few games and activities (like making a wooden cross) centred around the theme of Easter - one week away. 38 kids were there on the night.
March 19th - Chocoholics Dream Nite
"EAT Chocolate, THINK Chocolate, PLAY Chocolate" - that's how the night was advertised, and it did all centre around that rather tasty treat we know as chocolate. For details and pics, click here.
March 5th - Water-time at Willowbank
We never did get to Willowbank. Instead we met at the church and wandered along to Grasslees Reserve where several hundred water bombs were thrown and not everyone stayed dry! As it was starting to get dark about a quarter past 8, the 37 kids and handful of leaders headed back to the church for supper, a short talk and a game.
February 20th - Barbecue, Swim 'n' Games
Because of the lousy weather we'd had much of February, we decided early in the piece that we would probably have to go to 'Plan B' which was fish & chips in the hall for a start, followed by a couple of games, and then off to the Porirua Aquatic Centre. And that's what happened, even though the day itself had been quite sunny. It still didn't feel like beach weather though.
There were 38 kids on the night (although 44 had booked) and they all seemed to have a good time. Fortunately the two girls we unfortunately managed to leave behind at the pool were retrieved by the mother of one of them (moments before one of our helpers arrived back there).
